Train, Learn, Drive and Earn

Train Learn Drive Earn

What is the scheme?

Over an eight-week period, participants work with a training provider and bus operator to receive training and work experience to achieve a category D licence and driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC).

The course includes training in administration and customer care, with further training in employability skills.

Training is delivered as a Sector Based Work Academy, working closely with specific bus operators to better align jobseeker training to their organisational needs.

Participants receive the following:

  • A guaranteed interview with a bus operator
  • Pre-employment, licence acquisition and driver CPC training
  • Work experience
  • Employment with a bus operator upon successful completion of the course.

In addition, your local Job Centre Plus will support you with free travel to your training location and, through agreement between TfGM and Jobcentre Plus, the course has no impact on benefits.

Who is eligible?

• Trainees must be over 21 and have held a full, clean UK driving licence for two years
• All trainees must be currently unemployed
• To enrol, trainees must undertake an assessment, interview and medical.
