For three weeks Stalybridge rail station is being transformed into a community hubs as part of Transport for Greater Manchester’s Platforms For All project.
Spaces at the station will be used for a range of free activities for the benefit of passengers and the local communities. Events include arts exhibitions and classes, community gym classes, mental health awareness sessions, debt advice workshops and Christmas stalls.
Platforms For All is part of Action Stations, a TfGM project that transforms the city-region’s stations into community hubs by connecting them to social enterprises.
TfGM believes this innovative partnership-based project will enhance the stations, stimulate the local pride, and create a sense of community ownership.
Other benefits include:
-
Multi-use venues and facilities for rail users and the wider community
We want stations that are not only used, but enjoyed. Working in partnership with local organisations and social enterprises we believe we can provide needed services and opportunities for development. -
Volunteering and pride in the local community
There will be a specific focus on creating opportunities for all. Activities will be free so they will be accessible to the whole community, confronting social deprivation and social exclusion. -
Health and wellbeing
A wide range of health and wellbeing services can be run from the sites. -
Improved quality of life
Stations can be used as cultural and artistic spaces. They can host art exhibits, concerts, performing arts and mini-festivals.
We are thankful to our partners in delivering this project, TransPennine Express, and the social enterprises:
- Social Adventures
- Fighting Fit
- Big Issue In the North
- Global Grooves
- Ostrich Debt Advice
