People visiting Wigan town centre will notice the new bus station on Hallgate beginning to take shape.

Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham visited the construction site this week to check on the progress of the £15.7m redevelopment.

He was shown the completed structural framework, which makes up the skeleton for the new, modern bus station.

The impressive steel frame was manufactured off-site and lifted into place by two cranes.

The next stage of the project includes the construction of the roof, brickwork and glazed curtain walling.

While the bus station is closed for redevelopment, nearly 1,000 daily bus services have been relocated to temporary nearby bus stops. Find out where to catch your service.
