1. Summary of the survey

Transport for Greater Manchester ["TfGM"] is aiming to improve the public transport fares system and wants to understand the views of transport users to inform this process. Findings from this survey will be used to help decide what fares and ticketing should be in future.

We have commissioned AECOM to undertake this work on our behalf.

TfGM is the Data Controller for personal information collected in the survey.  This means that we decide how your personal data is processed and for what purposes.

AECOM is our Data Processor for personal information collected in the survey, but an independent Data Controller for any contact details they collect from you for quality control purposes. You can view their privacy policy at: https://aecom.com/privacy-policy/

2. What information we will collect from you

The survey will ask you questions in relation to your use of public transport, the types of tickets you use and your perception of fares and ticketing in Greater Manchester.

We ask for some demographic information. These questions are optional and include:

  • Age
  • Gender
  • Working status
  • Health and disability
  • Ethnicity
  • Home postcode, in full, for GM resident survey
  • Home postcode (first part only), county or country for visitor survey

At the end of the survey, AECOM also ask for your name, telephone number and email address. There are three purposes this data may be used for and for each purpose consent will be asked and data will only be used where consent is granted. These purposes are:

  1. To re-contact some participants and ask them about their experience, to check that the interview was conducted correctly.
  2. To be entered in to a prize draw
  3. To have contact details sent securely to TfGM to be added to a database for possible future research.

At the end of the survey period, AECOM will share all survey responses with TfGM. This research is confidential and any personal information collected will not be used to identify you.

Any results published from the research will be anonymous, meaning they will not contain any information which could directly or indirectly identify you.

3. How information is collected

The resident’s survey is being conducted face-to-face at households in and around Greater Manchester.

The visitor survey is being conducted face-to-face on-street in Greater Manchester.
