Local Sustainable Transport Fund

The Local Sustainable Transport Fund (or LSTF) is a Department for Transport funding scheme for projects which stimulate economic growth whilst reducing carbon emissions.

It was agreed that a single Greater Manchester-wide bid will be prepared for up to £50m which would focus around the three core themes of active travel, smarter travel information and promotion, and network efficiency.

Greater Manchester's submission to the LSTF is an opportunity to accelerate the pace of the ambitions outlined in the third Local Transport Plan.

Both the initial 'Key Component' bid and a 'Large Project' bid have now been submitted to the Department for Transport. The 'Key Component' bid was based around a programme of measures to support commuter cycling. The 'Large Project' bid has focussed on four components:

  • Sustainable access to key destinations and transport hubs;
  • Supporting sustainable choices;
  • Smarter Travel; and
  • Enabling community transport.

Both of the bids have received support from the public, private, and community sectors in Greater Manchester, as demonstrated by the letters of support received from partner organisations.

A copy of both of the bids is available below. The outcome of the 'Key Component' is expected by the end of June 2011. In respect of the 'Large Project' bid it is expected that we will know whether we have been shortlisted by the end of July 2011.

In 2011 we were invited to develop a full business case for (a revised version) of our bid. We submitted this to the Department for Transport on 20th December 2011.
