Land Use Planning

The land use planning process is crucial in helping to achieve more sustainable travel patterns that will assist in a mode shift away from the car in line with the objectives of the Greater Manchester Local Transport Plan (LTP). The location, type and design of development will all influence the level of use of public transport. All the revised Unitary Development Plans of the Greater Manchester Districts aim to support the LTP in this way. Transport for Greater Manchester aims to work with District Councils to ensure a 'public transport friendly' policy framework in Local Development Frameworks and to maximise the public transport accessibility of new development proposals.
