A new Altrincham Interchange
Altrincham town centre is entering an exciting phase of regeneration and a key to this is the redevelopment of Altrincham Interchange.
The interchange will be transformed into a new, fully accessible facility with a modern concourse, improving links between bus, train and tram services, improving access to the public transport network and providing an impressive new gateway to Altrincham town centre.
We will also be installing upgraded CCTV and passenger information systems and a new, integrated ticket office will be provided within the existing Victorian station building.
A dedicated Cycle Hub will also be provided at the interchange, providing secure, covered cycle parking for more than 50 bikes.

How your journey might be affected From 27 February 2013 the Northern Rail ticket office will temporarily move from platform 1 to platform 4 so please allow extra time if you need to buy tickets before you travel. Click here to see a map showing the relocation of the Northern Rail ticket office. The Northern Rail ticket office will move back to its normal location during summer 2013.
The TfGM Travelshop will remain open and continue to sell System One tickets and provide travel information.
Metrolink tickets are still available from the ticket machines on the platform.
Accessibility
Access to the Metrolink and Northern Rail platforms from the bus stopping area is be through the existing booking hall booking office. You can then use the existing footbridge to reach the temporary Northern Rail booking office on platform 4.
If you are unable to use the footbridge then use the rail crossing point but you will need to be accompanied by a member of staff – please ask at the TfGM Travelshop, Supervisor’s Office or Northern Rail’s temporary ticket office for assistance.
The existing toilet will be closed from 27 February. An accessible toilet is available in the library on Stamford New Road during library opening hours.
Until the end of March two footpaths near the Interchange will be closed. The footpath between Moss Lane and the Interchange will be closed. During this period, access will be via Stamford New Road.
The footpath between the Interchange and Denmark Street will also be closed so please use the footpath next to Tesco on Moss Lane. Moss Lane can be reached via Stamford New Road.
A small number of spaces in the Oakfield Road car park will be out of use during the works.
