As part of Network Rail’s ongoing commitment to electrifying around 300km of the region’s rail network, work has begun on the Manchester to Preston via Bolton line.

As part of this work there is a need to carry out major engineering work in the tunnel at Farnworth. This will have an impact on services between 2 May and 4 October 2015. For more details on what the work entails please click here.

At weekends, the line through to Bolton will be closed until October with rail replacement buses in operation. The changes to services will be as follows:

Monday to Friday – A reduced train service will operate alongside supplementary buses.
