Campaign for Better Transport is the independent national body concerned with sustainable transport. It looks for answers to transport problems and aims to reduce the environmental and social impact of transport by encouraging less use of cars and more use of walking, cycling and public transport.

Commission for Integrated Transport
The Commission for Integrated Transport's role in the Transport White Paper is defined as 'to provide independent advice to Government on the implementation of integrated transport policy, to monitor developments across transport, environment, health and other sectors and to review progress towards meeting our objectives'. The White Paper identified the following roles for the commission:
  • Reviewing and monitoring progress towards objectives and targets laid out in the White Paper;
  • Continuing and refreshing the transport policy debate;
  • Fostering consensus among practical providers;
  • Identifying and disseminating examples of best practice from home and abroad;
  • Advising on developments in Europe, including relevant EU initiatives;
  • Advising on the role of existing and emerging technologies

Eco-Management and Audit Scheme
A voluntary initiative designed to improve companies' environmental performance. Its aim is to recognise and reward those organisations that go beyond minimum legal compliance and continuously improve their environmental performance. It is a requirement of the scheme regularly to produce a public environmental statement that reports on an organisations environmental performance.

Energy Saving Trust
Funded mainly by central Government to deliver the sustainable and efficient use of energy. National Atmospheric Emissions Inventory
UK's National Atmospheric Emissions Inventory (NAEI). The NAEI is funded by DEFRA. The NAEI compiles estimates of emissions to the atmosphere from UK sources including public transport.
