Equalities and Diversity

TfGM strives to be recognised as an equality and diversity champion and leader. We are committed to the promotion of equality and diversity and the eradication of discrimination. This commitment underpins our organisational vision and values and our activities as an employer, provider and commissioner of services.

The Equality Act 2010 has harmonised existing equality legislation and in some respect extended legal protection to groups. The following groups, known as protected characteristics, are offered legal protection by the Equality Act 2010:

  • age;

  • disability;

  • gender reassignment;

  • marriage and civil partnership;

  • pregnancy and maternity;

  • race;

  • religion or belief;

  • sex;

  • sexual orientation.

We endeavour to comply with codes of practice and guidelines published by national equalities bodies and commissions, and engage with key stakeholders, customers, and other partners, to address identified needs. We work in partnership with:

  • Local residents

  • Customers using our services

  • Employees

  • Potential customers, residents and employees

  • Contractors, stakeholders and partners

It is important that our services are fair, relevant and accessible. For the services we provide we consult widely with interested parties to make sure our services meet the needs of those who live in, visit, or work in Greater Manchester. That includes monitoring and reviewing services and policies to ensure that there is no unlawful or unjustified discrimination.

We have therefore published our Consultation & Engagement principles, which outline our commitment to the level and frequency of consultation and engagement that residents and stakeholders can expect.

TfGM has made tremendous progress in embedding equality and diversity into the culture of the organisation. We need to continue to make improvements and we will do this by combination of identifying gaps in our service provisions and responding to the needs of stakeholders including local businesses, local authorities, community groups and our service users.

In meeting our legal duty under Section 149 of the Equality Act 2010 we have published organisational data and information which is available using this link: Equalities and diversity statement (PDF 196Kb).
