Network Rail owns Britain's rail network. It runs, maintains and develops Britain's tracks, signalling system, rail bridges, tunnels, level crossings, viaducts and 18 major train stations.
Northern Rail operates local train services and manages train stations across the north of England.
First TransPennine Express
First TransPennine Express operates inter-city services in the North of England and to/from Glasgow and Edinburgh.
First is the biggest bus operator in Greater Manchester. Most of its services run to towns in the northern part of the county.
Stagecoach is the second biggest bus operator in Greater Manchester. Most of its services run to towns in the southern part of the county.
Arriva is the third biggest bus operator in Greater Manchester. Most of its services run in the west of the county.
From Manchester Piccadilly and Stockport stations, Virgin Trains operate long-distance services to Stoke-on-Trent, Crewe, London and selected intermediate stations.
Arriva Trains Wales
From Manchester Piccadilly, Oxford Road and Stockport train stations, Arriva Trains Wales operates inter-regional services to North Wales (including Chester, Warrington Bank Quay, and intermediate stations) and to South Wales (including Wilmslow, Crewe and intermediate stations).
Arriva Cross Country
From Manchester Piccadilly and Stockport stations, Arriva Cross Country operates inter-regional services to Macclesfield, Stoke-on-Trent, Crewe, Wolverhampton, Birmingham, Coventry to Bournemouth and the West Country, and selected intermediate stations.
